  • Fact-check center debunks Ko Wen-je’s social housing claims

Taiwan FactCheck Center refutes Ko Wen-je’s claim that most of Taiwan’s social housing units were completed during his tenure. As of August 2023, Taiwan had a total of 27,781 social housing units, with 6,253 existing residences and 21,528 newly completed units. During Ko’s term as mayor until 2022, a total of 11,383 social housing units were built or constructed, including units initiated by his predecessor, Hau Lung-pin. Of these, only 5,062 units were started and completed before August 2023 under Ko’s administration, accounting for just 23.51% of the nationwide newly completed total. When factoring in Hau’s units, projects completed under Ko’s term totaled 6,359 units, or 29.54% of the nationwide total. These figures contradict Ko’s claim of being responsible for "most" of the social housing projects. The factual data reveals a significant discrepancy between his statement and the reality.

  • Jaw to pursue defamation charges amid election rumors

KMT vice presidential candidate Jaw Shaw-kong plans to file criminal charges against Guo Xi, Chairman of the TMGP, for defamation. Guo accused Jaw of misappropriating NT$300 million from the New Party’s campaign funds in a video released on the "Chen Talk Show." The DPP and its affiliates have been spreading false statements since Jaw and KMT candidate Hou Yu-ih announced their joint bid. Rumors circulated that Jaw embezzled NT$300 million after the 1994 Taipei mayoral race, but the New Party issued a statement clarifying that these rumors were false. The Taiwan FactCheck Center also confirmed the information was incorrect. Guo Xi continued to perpetuate the false allegations, indicating a clear intention of defamation and election interference.

  • Hou Yu-ih’s spokesman debunks rumors, touts clear policies

KMT campaign office spokesman, Chen Po-han, criticizes DPP’s Lai Ching-te for vague and inconsistent responses on key issues including a kindergarten drug administration case, "Trojan Horse" military exercises, and opening Taiwan’s labor market to Indian workers. Chen accuses Lai of spreading false information about Chinese students working in Taiwan and highlights the Ministry of National Defense’s military exercises simulating attacks by Chinese military aircraft hiding among civilian planes. The Taiwan FactCheck Center has debunked the rumor of opening up to 100,000 Indian workers. Chen defends Hou Yu-ih’s opposition to the "one country, two systems" framework and emphasizes his clear plans for various policy areas. This critique occurs in a politically charged atmosphere focused on misinformation and policy debates.
